5-spd shifter

I can't figure out how to take off the stick, I'm looking down at it and it's just a nut on a threaded piece, so of course I take off the nut thinking the stick would wiggle loose but with the nut off it seems the same, anyone know the trick to get it off, do I just maybe need to jiggle it and work it loose after the nut is off?

If you have the nut off, you need quite some force to get the bolt out. I had to whack it real hard with a substantial hammer to get it out. Once the bolt is out, the stick comes off. Mine was a real bad sucker to get out, though. Good luck!

Get a Chilton's manual..

It explains this and lots of other useful maint info.. not saying its perfect but it helps.

To remove the shifter, unthread the nut off the tapered stud (you'll see its tapered once you remove it) and THREAD IT ONTO the other side that is exposed and tighten it down.. This pulls it out...
