Ray-

How's your truck running? Still okay? Did the mileage get any better?

Just doing my follow-up.

Take care,
-Chris

it acts funny on the highway since the air box mod? or because of the egr code?

Yank the EGR & EVP off the work truck and see if it makes a difference. As you well know, "new" doesn't always mean "works right".

Take care,

Nice truck Donate!

Ray,
What egr code are you getting? I was recently getting a egr/evp code as well, with the help of this board i solved the problem...vacuum leak. My mileage was also suffering before the fix, only gettin 350miles per tank, now i'm getting over 400.

I think i'm going to try to the airbox mod as well. how far down (or up) did you cut it? What did you use to cut it?

1 more question. I was looking at your sig, and i noticed you have a new oil pump. why did you replace your old one? the reason I ask is, I'm suspecting my oil pressure is running high. The gauge reads high, and i replaced the sender with the one from my mustang, and got the same reading. I'll be hooking up a real gauge (autometer) to see if it really is high soon, but I was just curious why you replaced yours.

Thanks,
scott

i used a normal handsaw . couldnt find my jig saw ....lol...i cut it about 1/2" below the bottom of the filter. overall i think 1 1/2 from where the lip is for the filter to sit on . pics in my gallery .

i replaced the oil pump last summer . oil pressure started dropping even after changing the oil . it was still in the normal range but i knew it was lower then what it normally ran . being the miles on the truck and the age of it i opted to put in a high volume pump . not a high pressure pump cause then at least i knew it was getting more then enough oil to the top end .

the egr code is code 32 . been through all this in the last few weeks with PKRWUD. it is a new egr and evp . also has new MAP, IAC , TPS , Cap. rotor , wires, plugs . oil and filter. and air filter.
checked vacuum to evr and koer vacuum to egr is sufficient. (after replacing vacuum line from evr to egr .)
it was giving me the code then and as chris suggested to pull a vacuum on the egr serveral times with a hand pump then , it went away . but since has returned .

Chris
after my truck was done and i put al the parts back on the shop truck i ran codes on it . it is also getting code 32 . and twp others . forget off hand . but they were the TPS high voltage out of range and low voltage out of range. i will try the hand pump deal again . if it continues to give me the code after clearing them i will take it back under the warranty and make them replace it .

one more thing might help your decission to cut the air box is . i have got on the same freeway ramp coming home from work for 2.5 years . if there is no one in front of me i always stand on it . normally i will be doing 75 when i crest the hill. after the air box mod , under the same road conditions . i can do 80+ (closer to 85)
that to me is a great improvment for $50 and a ten minute job of cutting the air box

If the hand pump temporarily clears the code, then the valve is sticking, and should be replaced. But you already knew that. Also, just to protect my "image', let it be known that the bulk of the work you did and parts you replaced were before my help. I'm not here to make money, but I don't want a reputation as the kind of guy that throws money at a problem until it goes away. As you well know, it often takes a great deal of patience, and the ability to follow directions, even though they don't seem to make sense. You were clearly the best "customer" I have ever helped online in the 4 years I've had a Mac, and made it a breeze. To solve your problems required alot of trial and error testing, and a working knowledge of engine vacuum and electronics. You did the work, and did it well. I just shared where to go, and what your codes really meant. You did the best you could, and I'm not faulting you for replacing other parts. As I recall, the MAP sensor ended up being the main problem, and a bad MAP can be very hard to diagnose, due to the similarities it has with other failing parts.

Take care,
-Chris

yes thats true about the map sensor . but , the computer spit out codes on the other parts i replaced and nothing on the map sensor . and i tested the TPS itself as per your instructions and yes it was bad too . so all the parts replaced were needed to be replaced . no , you didnt make anything off of helping me . and i appreciate it very much , and i was the one who "threw " money at it ...lol i needed my truck running and did whatever i thought it was going to take to make it run right and then some just because . any reputation you may of have aquired here at f150 online is one i would be proud to have for myself . a person that makes money from this line of work but yet lends his ear and knowledge to others without compensation of any sort is very admirable and rare . yes i am the one that got my hands dirty . yes i do have a good working knowledge of motors and mechanics . also i had a bit of knowledge about computer systems , how to read codes and to trouble shoot problems with them codes . yes i may have eventually figured it out on my own,
but you were there helping guide me and my truck got fixed sooner then i would have been able to do it on my own ,i am very thankful for you sharing that knowledge with me . i am alot more knowledgable now myself about these systems then i was before . the thought i keep having about your helping people here is that 90% of shops or dealerships if asked for this type of knowledge and as anyone here can tell you is that we would get the ol' " well why dont ya bring it in" i know , being a service manager for a R.V. dealership i do the same thing .
