2wd to 4wd conversion on 1988 F-150
Hi all, new to this forum, but always a truck enthusiast since early 70's. I am looking at purchasing a very nice 1988 F-150, all original, even paint, and looks new, but it is a 2WD. I definitely need a 4wd for my needs, so looking into a conversion kit? I think the best, and most economical route, would be to find all parts in junk yard, have restored, then installed? But it will be tough in finding someone knowledgeable enough to do this. I am in franklin, NC. Everyone here knows how to change oil. I might be wrong, but that's the way it seems. Any suggestions from you fellow Ford enthusiasts? Thanks
4x4 donor truck and bolt it all in. But the 80-96 Dana 44 TTB is pretty ****ty of an axle. Trans/transfercase/shafts/ect.
More work would be a solid axle swap to make things fit but is common enough to google step by step pictures. The cool thing to do is now 2005+ superduty axles as they are common in yards these days. Either way you're cutting, welding, and wrenching.
