94 f150 issues?
I just got a 93 F150 Flareside with 5.8 (190k miles) from a field which it had sit for almost 2 years. I had an intermittent starting issue which is posted in here. However, I have the same small oil leak on the front of the motor and I think its the distributer oil seal. Not positive but cant find any oil from either valve cover? I have ripped the upper manifold off and found all kinds of little things like fuel injector pig tails of which 3 of 8 were chaffed and had bare wires, so I replaced the pig tails. I also replaced the injectors as I also had a a hot start which the pedal on the floor cranked right up.
So, I think I had fuel injectors leaking fuel into the cylinder when hot which caused my slow start. Most embarrassing find was I went to change the plugs and I found #5,#6, #7 plugs were so lose I spun them out by hand and I had one more on the other side which I turned the tip of the plug and spun it right out. So go over everything simple like a basic tune up. I had a bad ICM which contributed to my starting issues. I found the plug below the plug wire on the coil had a broken lock tab. Rewired a new plug that locks on the coil. I had a code in the PCM for bad O2 sensor and I changed that out which was the original O2 sensor.
Even after all of that, I fell the engine is still solid and the E4OD tranny shifts super smooth and pulls hard. I think I got a decent truck for $2500. Will need lots of TLC to get it running as good as possible but I do all my own work. If you don't do your own work, you should get a mechanic to look it over and at least interrogate the OBD system for codes. I agree, if the truck has been maintained, it will do you good once its gone over by a solid mechanic.
