Perches, we don't need no stinking perches

Thanks for the kind words ManualF150. Wish I could go faster with the whole process but that's why I do this as a hobby and other things to pay for the hobby.

Was able to find a set of 460 4x4 frame perches from a 1989 at a junkyard on the way to the hotel yesterday, picked up today. They were going to charge $25 for both if I pulled, but once he told me it would only be $100 to have them pull both and they could do it by today that was an easy decision. Didn't have to lay out in the slush/snow of the past 24 hrs so it was a no brainer. I'll bring those home Friday and see how the 460 looks in it's new home .

Obviously all of the pics I have posted are not really anything near what I hope to make it look like as far as finish, just trying to get it fabbed up and movable by the end of April. I'll use correct length bolts where applicable and will be showcasing my ugly welds to secure everything and box in the front so everyone can have a good laugh once I get set up in the new shop. It'll be obvious why I didn't want to be welding structural components. On the plus side it was nice to catch the issue with rear axle alignment.

I do have a question on rear leaf orientation. Anyone know if it matters what way they are installed? I put them on the way I pulled the old ones off, but the diff is pointing up at like 7-10* in this configuration and would require a tapered block to get it back horizontal for sure. I did a test fit with the leafs the other way and it was closer to level but too far back. I like the idea of moving the brackets forward 3-4" rather than the same further back as there are quite a few holes in that last 6" of frame and not nearly as many moving forward plus wouldn't need a block.

I think I just talked myself into flipping leaf orientation, I'm sure I sound crazy with my long rambling posts, but sometimes it helps to write stuff out cuz it makes you think it through. I'll post up what I get done on Sat/Sun

Update

So on the reversing the Leafs idea that won't work with the overload Springs so going to have to move the mounts back further to get the wheel centered where I want it. Got the new frame perches on motor went in easy, now I have to get the correct transmission crossmember because the one I have is for a manual so it doesn't line up in the right spot on the E4OD. Got the new 40 gallon tank mounted in the rear may become an issue with the spare tire but I've owned a couple 460s and they're thirsty so I think the bigger tank is a good idea. It's in good shape now for the move so I don't know that I'll get much more done between now and the end of the month with having to pack up other stuff.
