I just replaced my front tank's fuel pump and sender assembly with motorcraft parts. We cleared the codes, I think the codes where for low fuel pressure. The motor seemed to run alot smoother. have not calculated mpg, but hopefully that will increase. Also, no more fuel being sent to front tank via rear tank and pouring out the filler neck. I am at 207,000 miles now, but used to get around 20mpg with the 2.79? rear end.

That was a chronic problem with all fuel injected Ford trucks with dual tanks from '85 to '96. I had several that did that. The worst were the ones which had 2 fuel pumps. The early ones, 85-89 or so, had a low pressure fuel pump in the tank and a high pressure pump along the frame rail, but fore of the fuel pump splitter thing. What a pain in the *** to troubleshoot that. They eventually went to a single high pressure pump in the tank, but the splitter thing would still break, and lead to unreliable operation, and weird stuff like pumping gas from one tank to another
