Head Gasket - Worth the risk?

Came across a 1989 F150 4x4 with a blown head gasket, guy only wants $1000 for it. Is this an easy enough job or am I missing something?

a 1989 truck is always going to be risky. The good news is you could get a whole engine for $500 al day long. Head gasket vs pulling the engine and replacing is about the same amount of work. unless the truck is super nice I think a grand is a bit steep.

What engine? How many miles? What condition is the rest of the truck? Is the body rusty? If the body is good, mechanical stuff can be repaired. How good a mechanic are you? Or, are you planning to pay someone else to repair everything?

When you can't test drive a vehicle, you are taking a lot of other things for granted.

Unless you are capable of repairing it yourself, you probably are looking at a money pit.
