shifting problems with my 92 f150. help?
So I have a 1992 ford f150 5.8l automatic e4od. A couple months ago it broke down and I lost power and it would not shift when in drive. I was told it was my transmission, so I replaced the transmission but when I test drove it it did the same thing as previously. I bought a used transmission from a 95 bronco so the wiring harness did not match the transmission range sensor so I put the old one from previous transmission on the replace. Could this tr sensor have such an effect on it and make it have these shifting problems? It will shift if I get it to a certain rpm and let off the gas. It does it at about 20 then 30 and when it hits 40 it does speed up and then semingly slip and catch again and on and on. The tr sensor is the only thing the 2 trannies have in common. I do not have a check engine light or anything on. Could that sensor be the problem? Please help.
I have a '93..same tranny...
I also have a '69 mustang with 302, my mustang slipped..and broke my clutch plates...(back on track)
So last month, same thing happened...almost, the f150 was still shifting but slipping...i got worried, thought about the stang...
I switched tranny fluid...nope still problem..
Just as i was about to have tranny replaced, i took it to another place...a STUPID sensor, error code, 634 or something, it was called
MLP sensor or neutral switch...$200 later shifting was back to normal.
The sensor is,by factory default, placed to close to the tranny and exhaust...burns it up eventually (20yrs)
Hope this helps
