no such thing as a coil sprung d60 to match your 10.25 rear. Also that is a short pinion I believe they upgraded to the long ones in 92 but you could double check that. Going coil simply requires a little custom work, leaf swaps are easy but it isnt a no fab job because you need to make a crossmember for the frame horns that strengthen the area and have you spring mounts, also I would reccomend the sky manufacturing shackle flip kit from an f350. Does wonders for ride quality and you get a good amount of lift. When I was going to do a leaf d60 on mine thats what I was going to use but now Im going coil

Yeah its short pinion its out of a 91 f250 i cant go over 4.56 gears but i dont think i will ever go bigger than 38s and with those gears i will be fine, and the junkyard i go too has a small gated place it has a 78 or 79 f350 i think im purty sure its 4x4 that should have a dana 60. if it is i will pick it up he will probably want 100-150 for it. And i seen about the cross memeber for the leaf swap seems fairly simply i feel i can do it, if not my uncle is a welder and he makes custom bumpers etc he could make it for me if i needed him too.

No good my friend, you need yourself an 85.5-91 d60. The 78/79 is a 32 inch perch width, you need 36. Along with the fact the pumkin is over toward the center more with the 78/79 d60 so your drive line wont be as good. Its a good axle, but not for this application. I sold my 79 and bought a later year king pin with a couple hundred to spare though. Ignore my sig I never had time to change the 79 d60 part

If you can get the 79 d60 for 150 bucks as well do it.. then sell it for at least double that. An 80-96/7 d60 sells for 500+ in bad condition.

That's normal price for just the axle, cheap with springs and trac bar etc. You can use a 77-79 f250 8 lug d44, cut the perches off and weld on some coil mounts or go leaf sprung front and move the drivers side perch.

^ this is true, but for what its worth to do that your better off finding a coil sprung d44 and converting it to 8 lug. The later year king pin ford axles will usually run from 400-800. People usually ask a grand but no reason they shouldn't take 800. I paid 350 or 400 for my later year and sold my 79. I've seen the 78/79 axles sell for over 1200 plenty a times, I didnt get that though unfortunately. Sorry Im rambling, moral of story either get a later year king pin ford axle, you can use ball joint axles too if you dont mind ball joints, or you use late 70's 8 lug d44. Thats for a leaf swap. For coils either a d44 set up for coils or start looking into coil d60 swaps, little more fab required

I personally don't think any 44 should go for that much ever. I could of picked up an 8 lug 44HD for 200 bucks last week. It may still be there, but I don't want 8 lug.

If I did find a 78/79 dana 44 could I convert it to 8 lug with 1991 f250 front axle parts? I just want a dana 60 because even with chrome moly axle shafts I still wont feel to comfortable running 37s or 38s on it and wheeling it.

No, the ttb uses A different style knuckle.
Just get a 60 if you plan to wheel 38's
