1995 F150 dies. Please help

I have a F150 2wd automatic and it dies when put into reverse from park AND neutral. It will also die when in drive but not as often.
I have already replaced the transmission filter and fluid. The filter is fine and brand new. It has plenty of fluid. So that is not it.
I also replaced the Idle Air Control Valve has also been replaced. So thats not it. Replaced the air filters also.
I have no idea what else it could be. If you have any idea and can help I would be eternally grateful. Thank you!!

Which engine? MAF or speed density? Have you replaced the fuel filter recently?

I'd also say the following would be helpful...

General state of tune
Idle RPM both in and out of gear
Does this happen with both tanks?

It has the 4.9L 6 cylinder. What does MAF or Speed Density mean? The fuel filter has not been replaced recently.
I dont know what General state of tune means.
it doesnt have a way to read the rpm, but it runs just fine in park and neutral, it wont die then. when you shift into gear with your foot on the brake it dies. it kind of slows down the rpms then dies.
the front tank doesnt work. it has old gas in it and hadnt been used for awhile.
Sorry for not knowing what these things are. thank you for the help.

MAF and speed density are two types of airflow measurement systems, and I don't know what the other poster was looking for in particular.

By general state of tune I was referencing regular tune up items. Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor to start. If any or all of these are not in proper working order the truck could be running just poorly enough that you don't really notice it at times but enough to allow it to stall easier also.

If you have tools and can check such things, let us know. If you don't have tools to check such things let us know and someone can help walk you through it if you can buy or borrow the tools.

If the front tank has old gas it in and doesn't work, my guess is that at some point the back tank may have had old crappy gas in it as well. You could have a clogged screen at the fuel pump, or a fuel filter clogged as well. The fuel filter is along the frame rail right about the back of the door on the drivers side. Since it's a regular maintenance item changing it might not be a bad idea. If you want to be safe you could check fuel pressure first, but you would have to buy or borrow a fuel pressure tester and they don't always tell the whole story.

I have already changed the plug wires and plugs.
Also the speedometer jumps around. Today I unplugged the VSS and it fixed the stalling problem. But then it shifted hard, and you don't have a speedometer. I bought a new VSS. Put it on. Same thing. So what now?

If it's a speed density system, those can be symptoms of a bad MAP sensor. They are cheap and easily replaced, and they do fail rather commonly. MAF fails a lot less often but a MAF sensor can be cleaned. I believe all 95 4.9's were speed density.

How can I tell which one it is? And where is this located?
Do you guys think it could be the speedometer? Because when I unplugged the VSS it fixed the Stalling problem, but the truck didn't know how fast I was going. Replaced the VSS but it didn't fix it.

The MAP sensor is located on top of the evaporator core case on the passenger side, up against the firewall. It looks like this - a vacuum hose and an electrical connector with 3 wires:

Check for a cracked/broken vacuum line and pull the connector and clean it.

I HAD the same problem...long story short, it was the ignition control module located underneath driver side hood hinge, on the wall ....it's mounted on a heat shield with cooling fins.
kinda sneaky gettin to it...take the whole heat shield off with the module ...then take off the module from the shield... cost about 58 bucks at autozone..lifetime warranty...They'll check your old one first..just to make sure
