Wouldn't shut off

This morning I started (no prolem starting) my 1995 F-150 and drove it two miles without it being shut off. When I got home the key would no shut off engine. I disonected the battery and coil wire to shut it off. Now with everything reconnected and the key in off position I get a check engine light. If it is the ignition switch can it just be replaced with a toggle switch? I once had a 1971 LTD tht worked on.

The problem is probably the linkage between the key tumbler and the ignition switch. Maybe the switch, but I would guess the linkage. Whatever it is, you would be better off fixing it properly IMO.

Thanks for the comment/advice. I'll be taking it apart in the morning. I'm glad I got it home before going down.
