It's most likely the pickup coil in the distributor. I would try the coil and the ignition module first as they are easier to replace. If it come to replacing the pickup coil in the distributor, get a new distributor from Oreillys. Rebuilt distributors are junk.

You would want to check to make sure it's ignition you are losing when it quits. I'm quite confident you will find you are losing ignition.

The stator or PIP or ignition pickup it goes by several different names. You can go buy a new one of these and install it in your present distributor. One problem here though, it requires the distributor be removed and disassembled. A little tricky but doable if you have the proper tools. I would personally go to Oreillys and buy a NEW reproduction distributor. They run around one hundred dollars I think. If you don't have an Oreillys near you, you can order online.

It could also be the coil, or possibly but not very likely, the ignition module on the side of the distributor. I would be inclined to try the coil first. Kind of a bummer to solve when it quits on the highway and the guy has to wait an hour or two for it to restart. Forget about trying to test these parts because if they are working to run the truck, they will fire when tested.

My in tank fuel pump went slowly and ran good sometimes and would die other times too so make sure its not fuel pressure.
