Fuel issue 85 F150 302

It seems that when i get to about 1/2 tank , she dies like it's out of fuel. When I top it off , It usually takes no more than 9 gal. and runs perfect...any suggestions ?

The fuel vapor canister may be filled & require replacement

Ha ...the return line was not hooked up to the intake. We'll see what she does. Thanks
