ignition switch problem

Hi all.
I have 1992 f150 and am having a problem with the ignition switch. I can only turn the key to on but it wont proceed to the start position.

I removed to the switch by turning the key and depressing the retainer then stuck a screw driver in there. I can still only go from accessory to on and no further. I think the problem is with the column. Any ideas?

You have a broken ignition 'slide'. Its a cheap pot metal peice on the steering mech. Look on the lower end of your steering col. (near the floor board). You will see a mass of wires and a connector. If you can....unbolt the connector. Look at the end of the connector that goes up under the dash.
you will see a slot.......get a screw driver and insert it into the slot on the connector.
push the 'slot' forward ..any way it will move.
It should either do nothing....or light up your waring buzzers and door chimes.
Once you get the lights and chimes.....if you keep moving the slot.....your truck will start.
Good Luck
