Tricky little issue

Now that it's cold. My truck is doing something very weird. When I first start it up it shows no oil pressure. I loosened the oil pressure sending unit and there is pressure. Then when I kill the motor it then becomes very hard starting. What on earth can affect both or are they separate issues? Also when I get it started the second time there is oil pressure.

Would be 1.5qts low do this? That is the only thing I found out of whack. Maybe a bad oil pressure sending unit?

Thanks for any insight, Bryan.

Sounds like separate issues. I am not sure about the hard starting thing, but you might have a broken oil pump drive shaft on your distributor. If it is broken it may show oil pressure sometimes and no pressure other times. Its kinda tricky to find out if you do have a broken oil pump shaft, so i advise you take it somewhere or find a friend who knows how to pull out the shaft from the block. FYI..... If you attempt to pull the distributor out, then pull the oil pump shaft out, half of the shaft may fall back into the oil pan. If that happens, then you will have to drop the oil pan to fix the whole thing.
GOOD LUCK!!

Oil pressure turned out to be a bad oil pressure switch/sending unit.

The hard starting thing was either temporarily or fixed by a can a seafoam.
