Gas Line Leak

Gas Line Leak
I have a gas leak under the driver side door. 1989 F 150, Lariat, 4x4, automatic, 5.8L, single tank.
I have been told several things, and have read several things, but none are adding up. Is it a Vapor Canister? Is it necessary?
There are 2 lines coming into it from the fuel tank and two going out towards the motor.
The part looks more like an oil filter than the vapor canister. From what I have seen online the vapor canister with charcoal is more like a rectangle/box with ports on the top.
Is there a way to find the part or fix or bypass? Not sure if it has a gasket or not.

Looks like there is a bypass solution:
http://dormanproducts.com/p-12461-800-159.aspx
This site says that if the part says 'Do not remove cup' (mine does), that there is no filter inside.
http://www.supermotors.net/registry/2742/66025-2
It also states, that there is a replacement O ring, I would think that would solve the leak I have, but would also think that the bypass solution would be a simpler solution.
Any thoughts???
