Not necessarily, he has 4.11's.

4.11's with 37's gives you the same speed/RPM ratio as stock 29's with a 3.40. Seems to me that the 302 was offered with gears as low as 3.08 from the factory.

Sure - it will perform better with 4.56's or higher, but they are not NECESSARY.

not going to start a pissing match, but with the age of the truck any help to prevent the drivetrain from working harder will somewhat prolong the life of the drivetrain. the op had pm'd me and stated that the transmission has been re-built roughly 30k ago.

It would STILL be nice to know which transmission it is! I might be a bit concerned about an old AOD that's not beefed, but a E4OD/C6 will handle it just fine. Heck - I'd be concerned about a stock AOD with ANY gears or tires.

Real nice of the OP to take it to PM's and keep the rest of us in the dark.

...but that way he gets to avoid dealing with all those cumbersome details.

Are you guys honestly whining like a bunch of women because I asked someone for more information about this, in PMs?

Are you kidding me?

I do thank you for the help, LIKE I THANKED YOU ALL BEFORE ON THIS THREAD...I was appreciative up until the last few posts because I just now got onto the forums, forgetting I had this post on here...

Don't make it seem like I disregarded everybody else's help..

GLC, I obviously would've told you my tranny if I knew for a fact what I had....I would assume it's a bone stock 89 Ford transmission....Seller never told me it was "beefed" up so I am taking it as...It's stock.

But, again. I thank you all for the help...It's helped me realize what my plans are in the future for rim/tire size.

Oh yeah, Don't wanna "leave you hanging" Adrian... Here's an update so I don't "leave you hanging" - I'm sticking with 35's for now...Maybe thinking of upgrading to meatier tires with a little more rim....

Thanks.

Do you want to know how to tell what transmission you have? All you have to do is ask IN THE THREAD if you don't know, avoiding the question pisses off people who are spending their time trying to help.

The "Trans Code" is found on the door jamb sticker.

If you have one of the 2 heavy duty automatics, the tranny will survive without regearing if you put big tires on. The AOD probably won't unless it's seriously beefed.
