1992 ford flareside questions
i'm 15 too bud. ask yourself, "what do i want to do with my truck?" if you want a powerhouse you might as well drop a couple grand in the motor and tranny just to get it to the spec you want. you can do NOS, but you will need to rebuild the motor. it's old, and im betting it isn't a low miled 92 either... im not sure about the camshaft, if you do headers do longtubes, you better be ready to cuss and scream. Exhaust systems are not fun, and cheaper if you do stuff like that before you take it to the shop to be done. You're not gonna do this in a week, its gonna be over a few years. heck ive only had my truck for a year, and it still has issues that i bought it with. you need to understand what you are getting into.
That is great that you are 15 and wanting to work on a truck and not sit inside and play with the Nintendo. The absolute best thing to do right now is run 'er stock. Nitrous is not a good idea. Any form of pushin' more ponies out of your mill will then find the next weak link. Most likely the trans, for your '92 assuming an automatic, either an E4OD (about 2000 for a rebuild) or an AOD (about 1200 for a rebuild). After that it is axles, then back to the motor, then the list goes on and on. Basically you can make the truck as powerful as your wallet can handle. Again I'm telling you 800 is a start of a good number to just keep it on the road.

thanks so much, and no im not a fat little kid that wants to play video games, my father died in a open wheel modified when i waws 7 and i dont remember **** about him. my mom wont even tell me storie about how he made things fast. it his family that tells me what my own father did to make something fast. i miss the hell out of my dad and i know if he was still around i probly wouldnt be on this forum right now because i would have learned everything already. my dad has some nice friends that said they will help me with the head gasket issue but my thing is are they going to want to "Rig" things like my dad did. i mean i want my stuff fixed right and i want it to run strong my other fear is that once i put this gasket on that the bottom part of the motor will be more weak than the top and it will break again.

i dont want the cam breaking since im putting more stress on the top of the motor with these new gaskets, this coming up week im taking it down to the shop to get it fixed the man said that itll cost 600, i mean thats alot and i would just want to fix the truck myself. it would be nice if someone could give me some directions on how to fix the truck so i can do it by myself.
For a 302 in '92, yer automatic choices are the E4OD most easily identified by the overdrive lockout button on the shifter. The other available option was the AOD which doesn't have a button, and a display of PRN(D)D1.
