Ive been a member here for years, but never posted, somehow my registeration was lost so I had to re-register.

We are planning on moving from Georgia to Flagstaff AZ. I just sold my 09 F150 and am looking for another truck.

Flagstff gets about 100 in of snow a year, the elevation is 7000 ft. I want 4wd, FI, AT, I dont really care if the hubs are manual or not. I will occasional tow a trailer with 1800 lbs of motorcycles. I have a couple pups so I need a covered bed as well. I only want to spend a maximum of 10k, the truck has to be rock solid reliable.

What do I buy?

Im considering a F150, Bronco, Explorer, Expedition.

I like the 90-96 F150 or Bronco, the Explorer is ok, but whimpy for towing, the Expedition is huge but there are alot of them for sale in my price range.

Opinions?

 

Explorer is fine for towing if you can find one with a V-8, either a 302 or 4.6. Other than gas mileage, it's hard to go wrong with an Expy - but at that altitude I'd want one with a 5.4.

2k lb trailer? I'd do that with my Wrangler. With only that requirement I'd find anything clean you like.

Im still looking. Found a few really nice Broncos but the asking price is way out there.

If I buy a 90-96 Bronco/F150 regardless of milege, I figure that it will need a full service, belts, hoses, filters, ect.

Unless the seller can document that the service has been done Im assuming that it needs to be done. At 16-22 years old Im not getting out on the Interstate away from home when a radiator hose or a wheel bearing lets go.

The ones that are in nice condition with less than 100k have top dollar asking prices. Im not paying top dollar unless the vehicle is road ready and in top condition.

Im hoping to buy in the next week or two, Ive got cash and cash is KING.

 

good luck tryin to find one with under 100k that someone dont want a mint for when i found mine it had 75k and was destend for the crusher till i saved it dumb guy didnt have the plug wires in the right place n couldnt get it runnin so i picked it up for $300 and even with 75k i done alot of work to get it right the guy neverdid anything too it but oil changes so after everything i probly got a grand into it but i do all my own work and i still got bad pinion bearings and i need to finish a few odds and ends

 

Looked at an ex- Florida Fish and Game Bronco yesterday. He wanted $4500. It just needed to much for that price. I may have been interested at $2500. 117,000 miles.

Im going to look at an 87 F250 diesel this week. 2wd, complete resto, looks really nice in the pics.

 

Be aware no overdrive with the C6 or T-19 as the available trannys in '87 if you are lookin' for a highway cruzer.
