Any Tips or Secrets

Hey...just wondering if any one can give me a tip or two about the 4.9 L6 fuel injected engine. I'm looking to rebuild it really soon and i don't want any surprises while doing so. If any one has something that might give me a clue or warning on what I'm about to do, please let me know. Cheers.

Do you have a shop manual? I recommend Haynes &/or a Ford disk. Have you ever built an engine before? Do you have a full set of tools (torque wrenches, ring compressors, micrometers, plastigauge, ...)? Do you have a large area that can remain undisturbed for a few months?

Got most

well...i have worked on a fair amount of engines in the past, primarily on diesel tractors, but i have never really rebuilt anything from bare block yet. For the tools, if i don't have it already, I end up buying or borrowing, and for the space, no need to worry. I haven't got a priority list made to make the large order of parts I'm going to need, and at the same time, I'll be ordering the manual.

Before you dive in, shop around. I can buy a good used engine down here for less than $500. When I bought my current used engine (~450Kmi & ~13 years ago), it was only a few years old, so it cost me ~$1200.
