noob w/electrical problem

i have an '88 w/an inline 6 and the running lights/interior gauge lights have gone out. i know they share the same fuse circuit but the fuse is fine. i was thinking it was the ground but have no idea where to even look for it. any help would be appreciated.

I had this same problem but it was in a Honda. Found out it was a broken wire under the carpet right below the pedals. The PO was a Woman that wore heels everyday and I think her heels might of cut the wire through the carpet. Anyways, I fixed that wire and all was good.

Ok, how about the lights around the climate controls?

If all are dead, you would have to start looking for power at the headlight switch itself.

Don't know about the electrics on your model year but it sounds like the voltage regulator on the instrument panel (not the one under the hood) puked

On older cars and trucks with hydrolic brake light switches, when the brake lights would go bad so would the dash lights.

Don't know if this applies to your case, but it's worth checking.

It's not the brake switch or the ICVR - neither would affect the courtesy lights. It's the terminal in the headlight switch connector; they're known to burn off, particularly on the park/courtesy/dimming power feed wire (Tn/Wh). If that's OK, it has to be in the fuse block or the wiring between the fuse & switch.
