Im asumming 4way? did you use a light tester and check and make sure your truck has power at the plug?

ok. before u posted i went out under the truck and took a peek at it. the harness is a 7 prong harness and also has a 3 prong harness for diffeerent types of trailers. and the one i was trying to use was the 7 prong with adapter from uhaul to make it a 4 wire harness. so i looked at harness and all the wires are bare with no covering on them. so i am going to take the complete harness off and rebuild it. so i know it works

I suggest you get an old edition of the Haynes manual (the oldest blue-cover you can find) and wire it up the way '92-96 trucks are wired, using common Bosch/ISO relays & sockets as shown here:

You can buy standard blade fuse holders & MEGA fuse holders at most parts stores.

Go to electrical forum and look up trailer plug issues. I had a recent "adventure" with the plug and SScully gave me a diagram at the end of the thread.

I say go to because I'm not very good at posting links.

Hope that helps.

The trailer connector itself is always wired the same, but the way it's connected to the truck changed over the years (fuses & relays). So follow & mimic the circuits in the '92-96 diagrams; not the older ones. The diagram SSCULLY posted shows the same info as the one I posted above.
