I have a 1992 F150 with the 5.0 302 V8 with auto trans. I have been having an issue with it cutting off on me while driving and it has been missing too. Talked to several people and they have mentioned an ignition module under the distributor. Thought I would post on here to get some reccomendations.
The TFI failure usually happens when the engine is at normal operating temps. If it's happening on a cold engine, that's probably not it. The MAP sensor would be the next likely thing to check. I believe yours is mounted on the firewall on the passenger side. It'll have a vacuum line and an electrical plug going to it.
OK, Changed plug wires, ignition control module, fuel filter, and air filter yesterday. Truck ran great coming home from the shop. Got in the truck this morning, hooked up my trailer and started out the driveway and it cut off. Would not start back up so I had it towed back to the shop. Got there and the truck fired right up. Called my mechanic this evening and he has drove it and let it run and cool off and is running fine. I am getting very frustrated now.
Ok, now it sounds like you have a fuel supply issue. Usually when the fuel pump goes out, the truck will restart after a cool down period, and may run fine for a day, or a month. When it won't start, you need to check the fuel pressure first.
I had a 1990 Bronco with the 5.8 that I added a Vortech S/C to. Ran great around town but when I headed down the highway to SLC, I could make it maybe 100 miles at atime. Seemed like when the fuel got below a 1/2 tank, she was dead. Just like the previous post said.....after a cool down period (A long time in mid August) she would start right up again.
Fuel pump in tank....that is my guess.

its your fuel system...change to new pumps and check other things along that way, this happened to my dads truck same engine same experiences...after that shes still runnin towards the 190,000 mile mark and it feels she runs better then my 08, seriously!!
Sounds like the fuel system. I had a similar problem caused by the inside of the fuel tank delaminating. The lamination became a sort of rubbery sludge that kept getting hung up on the pump intake after I got the truck up and cruising. After I stopped and pulled over and shut it down for a ten minutes, it would start right back up. I wound up taking a tank from the junkyard and installing it. Afterwards, I took a look in the old tank and found the culprit sludge. I install autoglass for the DOT who in this state run almost exclusively Fords. The tech there said this is pretty common for Ford tanks after 150,000 miles. I described the sludge and he showed me one from the week before that he had removed and he showed me the sludge that was in it. It was the same stuff. Apparently it is much more common in diesels, but does occur regularly in gassers as well.
OK Had a different mechanic look at it before Christmas and he changed the coil. Truck done good for about a day and now it will run for a little and cut off (no fire coming out of the coil) It is not a fuel issue it is an electrical issue. When it cuts off it is like you turn the ignition off. You can let it set for a little and then it will fire back up.
Parts changed (fuel filter, coil, ignition control module, plug wires, distributor and stater)
