91 4wd 5.0 dies in reverse HELP!

I have a 91 f150 5.0 4x4 Auto with the e4od trans. Truck runs fine until its hot the when shifting into reverse it stalls right out. I just put a new solenoid pack in the trans and it seemed to have fixed it as it used to die in drive too when coming to a stop. Now it only dies in reverse and only when at operating temp. The truck never reads hot but does seem to get excessively hot at the radiator it also warms very quickly. When driving it usually takes about 20-30 minutes of driving to get the problem to start. Eec was coding about the egr valve and there was a vacuum issue it has been fixed and check engine light has not come back on. Any ideas for me?

I seem to remember something about if the trans filter isn't seated properly in the valve body, they will do that. I may be wrong, but dropping the trans pan to look won't break the bank. Oh, and make sure you have a 4x4 filter. They have an extension on them for the deeper pan.

You say you just changed the filter. Did you make sure to remove the original rubber grommet from the old filter that always sticks inside the bore? Because if you didn't, and just installed a new filter.....BINGO!!!

Yes indeed i did pull out the old grommet . I have a friend at a trans shop saying its possibly my front pump and next will be the torque converter so i will let you all know thanks for the help. When i drop the trans i will check the filter for seating issues again because i will probably replace the gaskets around the valve, accumulator, and solenoid bodies because i have heard of warpage issues with that trans. Hooray aren't transmissions fun!
