I have a 89 F-150, 4x4, 4.9 eng, 4 speed trans, lock n lock out hubs, short bed truck and it was rolling on 10.50s.........when I parked it back in September last year I was getting 18 mpg with it...it was a daily driver...
What kind of mileage does your truck get ?.....

 

its a truck you are very lucky to 18 mpg out of a ford v-8 i have a 99 f-150 with a 4.2 v-6 i would be lucky to get 20 mpg with the wind at my back on the highway 18 mpg for a 1989 v-8 truck i would have to see it to beleave it.

Last year I was getting 17-18 in my truck also. This year it's 15-16. I went to New Jersey back in April (7 hour trip) and did get 18 on the way there but it was all highway with the cruise on 65 the whole way.

 

A 4.9 is an inline 6.

 

my 86 F150 5.0 got around 14 mpg. My 99 f150 gets 11.5 to 12 mpg around town but its got bigger tires and a lift.
