'94 F150 Rear Shackle Replacement

The right rear shackle needs replacing and wondering how difficult a job this is to do? Seems like everything's right there and accessible. Any advice - what to watch out for? Any step by step advice appreciated.

I've got a '94 F150 4X4 shortbed.

Thanks!

Not Fun!...Did both on my 95. spring brackets are notorious for rotting out (especially here in the NE) Check your brackets for cracks on the edges where they start to bend. did both of mine with shackles for 180 bucks but a lot of work...springs are tough! block them in place before removing any hardware. If you have to replace the brackets too...they are riveted on (this is where I spent most of my time) the shackles alone are not too bad if you can block up the spring and keep it from moving when you cut the old ones off.

I'm actually doing mine right now aswell. Do the whole thing at once, both sides! Trust me, it isn't worth doing twice! Even if the brackets loom ok, I'd replace em. They see the same abuse and road debris (salt, water, etc.) that those shackles saw. From my experience, the shackle usually outlasts the bracket so if your shackle failed, my money's on your brackets aren't far behind. Just drill out the rivets and air hammer the bracket off. Took me about a half an hour to do in the shop. The hardest part is re-aliging the leaf. I got the kit from 1aauto.com...$120 to my door with all new hardware and pressed in bushings. Good luck!

Raise & support the frame on jackstands to take all the load (both up AND down) off the springs. Don't be surprised if the bolts through the bushings won't turn or slide out - they're known to rust in place. So be prepared to cut them without damaging the spring. The lower can be abandoned if you replace the frame bracket.
