Engine dies

I have a '95, 4.9L, manual trans with ~220K miles on it that I don't drive much anymore - ~1000 miles in the past year. It has become hard to start and then will die after 4-5 miles. Will re-start (sometimes quickly, sometimes not) and then drives ok. I had the fuel pump pressure checked (OK) - someone suggested "old gas" so I put some octane booster in without any improvement. Now I'm thinking electrical. Any suggestions?

Change the fuel filter.

The only way to fix "old gas" is drain the tank. Octane booster won't do squat.

Check for any chewed wires mice like sitting trucks, but best bet is to drain the tank and add "heat" to new gas or at lest any thing that that will remove water from any old gas still inside gas lines and tank . Also check the fuel filter and make sure its clean.

I agree, fuel filter. That fixed mine when it did the same thing.

Could be several things, but you really should check for codes first.

Sounds like a clogged exhaust to me.
