ok i have a 1981 f150 4x4,i removed the independent front end an i got a 1974 dana 44 straight fron axle,everything lines up except the radius arms with the brackets, the radius arms are about 6-8 inches insde the brackets,any info would be appreciated. cajunpride318@gmail.com

 

The brackets from the donor truck need to be used and relocated on the frame. The radius arms are longer on the older models. Just measure the length of both arms and move the bracket the same distance of the longer arm.

 

thanks for your reply,i do understand about moving the radius arm brackets futher back,that is already done. i did go check the parts truck an those radius arm brackets are mounted directly under the frame,which is basicly the same boat im in now

 

Oh, when you say "inside the brackets", you mean they are pointing toward the center of the truck inside the frame rails. I have seen these swaps, but have never paid much attention. Your problem is the 81 frame is wider than the 70 something models.
