clutch replacement
clutch replacement
I have a 1992 f150 5.0 with the mazda 5spd. I have to change the clutch and pressure plate and was wondering if i need to to change flywheel or can you just have it turned. Also do you need to change the slave cylinder.
It depends on how bad the flywheel is. If it is scored deep or cracked then yes. Also look real good at the teeth on the ring, that might be the determining factor.
If the slave is internal you have to ask your self "do I feel lucky punk" (Clint Eastwood) or do you want to drop everything again in---oh say a week,a month,2months?
I'd change the slave if it's internal just cuz!
That is my $0.02

Turn the flywheel. Its the best $50 you'll spend. As for the slave cylinder replacment, get one from the dealer because mine I got from Advance Auto Parts started leaking in a about a year with a 1year warrarnty. Their Junk . Had good luck out of their clutch though.
If you are going to the trouble to change the clutch - do everything. Disk, pressure plate, slave/throwout bearing, PROPERLY turn or replace flywheel, pilot bearing, and rear main seal (if it can be changed with just the flywheel removed). Inspect the master cylinder carefully, and if it shows any signs of leakage, change that too.
