Gear Position Cable ( too slack ? )

OK... well like I said when you park something for a while and then start driving it EVERYWHERE the "need to get done list" grows quickly... so my top two ( really before the doors go on ) are Airbag Clock Spring and 3G Alternator upgrade... well the 3G parts are on the way and I decided to ditch the tacky ( to me ) Indiglo Gauge package I installed like 10 years ago..Thought maybe the funky Indiglo stuff was making my alt gauge crazy..more wishful thinking.. Well got the dash all apart and put back together without any real problems...EXCEPT not the Gear Position cable seems Major Slacky... took the dash all back apart and the cable is not broke but it's like I stretched the stoopid little cable or something... the adjustment wheel seems fine ...didn't break the plastic holder or anything.... Any suggestions.

Have some pictures I will post of the J-B Weld fun I had keeping myself from having to purchase a new dash bezel.

there is i think an 8mm bolt that holds the cable up under the dash. its hard to describe the location but u'll know what it is when u see it. that may have worked loose.
