Starting issue on a 96

Hey guys, I'm new as a user, but been surfing the site (and others) quite a bit since buying my truck a year ago. Came time to join some because my truck decided she don't want to run.
It's a 96 F150 Extended cab shortbed, 5.0 automatic. Ran great, got 22 mpg on the road, never gave me issues untill now and I am at a wall as to what the issue is.
A few weeks back, the truck began quitting while driving, just for a split second though. not often, but was annoying. One day i had it running outside and it just quit, wouldn't restart. After about 20 minutes, it fired and was okay but still had the quitting issue. Replaced the module, same problem. Codes said distributor malfunction, so I installed a new one, same problem, but getting worse. would quit while driving, let it sit, disconnect the battery, fired after awhile. Noticed leaking water pump, replaced it AND the crank sensor. Fired up... 2 miles quit, Took it to shop, no codes. Mechanic said computer problem, installed a new one... guess what, no start..

Swapped coil, and coil wire from a running car, no change.

Fuel pump is running

So in short, my truck will not start, just cranks. NEW (not used) parts as follows:
Fuel pump and filter
Distributor
Module
Crank position sensor
computer

Where do I go from here???? Anyone have any ideas?

You are either not getting spark or not getting fuel.
Which is it?

The RPM signal comes from the PIP sensor which is in the distributor.
Since you've replaced the dizzy, I would trace the harness from the dizzy to the PCM. I'd bet on a broken or shorted wire

the wife's '96 Explorer had a 5.0 and we had a somewhat similar issue. Quit on the road once, then started running more and more rough, even backfiring sometimes. Dealer replaced ONE plug and said it was fouled.....uhhhhhh, oooo-K then...? (WTF???) Anyway, I replaced ALL the plugs, no fix, then replaced the spark plug wire set. Presto! Ran perfect. I also hate electric stuff.

If I was going to take a wild guess, I'd say your replacement distributor(rebuilt I'm sure, as I doubt if you could find a NEW distributor) has a bad PIP just like the distributor you had in there. This happened several years ago on this forum. Rebuilt distributors have a terrible reputation.

But remember, the PIP signal travels through the TFI module to the ECU! Remove the TFI & have bench checked. They also share the same power & ground!

This EXACT thing just happened to me. R\New/rebuilt dizzy didn't send out a PIP signal. A new PIP was installed and voila! - no problem. Sucks that this happens, but true.
