newbie transmission swap question

Hello all - at this point I know nothing about these trucks, but I'm thinking of buying one and I do have some home mechanic experience. I saw a 1994 F-150 Extended Cab XLT 4-wheel drive with a 302 engine that needs a new transmission. I've replaced trannys before - is there anything about this truck that would make it exceptionally difficult?

I also saw a transmision for sale that says it came from a '95 4-wheel drive F-150. Anyone know if it would fit? Are there a lot of different transmissions used on these trucks or did they tend to use the same ones across years?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Anthony

There are enough differences that you would need to find out what tranny you have now and what tranny and engine is in that 95. There's a transmission information page in the articles and how-tos forum.

Thanks for the tip - I see what you mean. It seems there are quite a few types.

Start with basics:
Is the truck now manual or automatic?
If automatic is it an E4OD or a 4R70W?
Is the tranny you want to stick in it manual or automatic?
If automatic is it an E4OD or a 4R70W?
