Need some advice

Ok guys, here is my situation. I need a truck bad. I work for my father in law's construction company. He picks me up and takes me home every day. I really don't think he minds doing it, but I don't want him to have to.

Anway, I am waiting on my tax return check to come back but I only want to use $3500 to buy a truck. I found a 1995 F150 4x4. It has the 4.9L and a 5 speed manual. This is the perfect truck for me. A fullsize 5 speed with 4 wheel drive is like my dream. The only thing that kind of scares me is the mileage. It has 153k miles on it. I know at 15 years old that is probably a little below average, but it still getting on up there a little.

Would you be hesitant to buy a truck like this? I always read that the 300 is an excellent engine and is perfect in a truck. I want a truck with a truck engine. These new trucks don't have them and I don't have the money for one anyway.

Any input you guys could give me would really help. I just hope the truck is still for sale when my refund comes.

Thanks,
Joey

I wouldn't hesitate a second, as long as the truck has been taken care of. A 300 six is a great truck engine, lots of torque. A well taken care of 300 six will last 300 K, no problem.

No kidding. Like 5 years ago I bought my old '95 V8 XLT Bronco with less miles for less cash than that.

For that price, it better be absolutely perfect with no body damage, rust, or bondo. Book value is $1500.

To give you a comparison, my 03 (in sig) has 120k and it books at 4k.

Sounds like a good truck but if it runs like a dog, you'll be throwing money out the window. My F150 has a 302 and i get 11 around town. Just see how it drives and how its been taken care of.

He's probably shooting high with the 3200. I wouldn't initially offer more than $2k with that asking price. You should be able to get it for under 2500.

Ever seen Pawn Stars? Cash in hand speaks loudly.

It sounds like a seller that's not motivated, and maybe even hoping nobody will buy it! (possibly "Nagging wife syndrome")

I guess I should clarify- I wasnt thinking he'd pay the full $3500 for it, thats just what he had allocated. I picked up my '95 w/ 130K for $1200, and sunk another $800 on tires, shocks, etc.... If he could get it for say $2K, he'd have some mad money for light mods....

I guess I feel kind of dumb for not checking the book value, but I don't even have the money to buy it yet. Another week or so before I'll get it.

If I could get it for $2k I wouldn't have to worry as much about something breaking. I'd have the extra money put aside for repairs if needed. Im still not dead set on buying this truck. I hate to admit it on this site, but if the right Chevy/GMC came up I would probably take a look at it too.

We'll see what happens.

Joey
