'96 Pushrod cover (300c.i.)

96 2wd, with straight 6. The pushrod cover is leaking pretty bad. I have a new gasket and looking at replacing it. From researching post, it seems as an easy fix. Do you have to pull the distributor? or can you work around it. What about coil pack and and any brackets? Thanks for the help. Once I get this leak fixed, it's on to the oil pan gasket.

on the inline 6 you have to remove the upper half of the intake manifold for sure, the distributor does not have to be removed, it can stay in, it's been awhile since i've worked on an inline 6 and can't remember what else would have to be removed

Don't kill yourself or waste the effort & cost of the new gasket by trying to finagle it into place. Remove whatever's in your way, and make sure you're getting a good seal. I recommend either Copp-R-Cote gasket adhesive spray, or RightStuff. I wouldn't use silicone/RTV.

thanks for the advice, I have not worked on the cover this week, once it warms back up this weekend, I should have time. I will get some gasket adhesive spray to help. I think the gasket I have is a cork type, does that sound right. I had a friend pick up a bunch of parts at his shop cost. Also, does the silicone/RTV do anything bad or just not help seal it? and no I did not try this, just wanting to know for future reference.

Cork & silicone absorb oil, which degrades them. Try to find a modern nitrile rubber gasket; preferrably steel-reinforced (if it exists). And read this caption:
