changing oil in a truck that has 6 year old oil in it
What do I need to do besides draining the oil and changing the filter? Is there any thing I can add to the oil to help clean all the old oil out. Thanks Jonathan
drain the oil and change the filter. then add a 50/50 mix of clean engine oil and Auto trans fluid. Let the engine idle for 30 mins then drain and change the filter again. Fill with oil of your choice.
No its not lol its a old 79 ford f150 I picked up. paralyzer so if it holds 6 qts do 3 qts oil and 3qts trans oil like atf? What does the trans fluid actually do brake down the sludge? Will it smoke really bad?

im not a fan of seafoam products, maybe as an intake/valve cleaner but the idea of dumping something with the texture of water in an engine does not sit well with me. The ATF trick has been around for decades and works very well.
older vehicles use alot of cork or other textured seals. using sythetic can actually draw deposits out of these seals and cause a leak. id just use Regular oil 10w30 or 5w30 in a colder climate.
ill second using ATF, If its really bad you could do a second treatment of another 30-45 minutes if you have time, and have the funds to go through that many quarts before the final oil fill
just as a reminder you dont want to change the filter until you are done with the ATF, then put a fresh filter on for the fresh oil
