95 f150 4x4 problem

95 f150 4x4 problem

new to this site and love it..well heres the deal..my front wheels will not engage when i put it in 4x4...the front drive shaft spins freely when it's not in 4x4..when i put it back in 4x4 it locks up so that end is good i'm thinkin..but the front wheels will not engage..any help will be great...thank you in advance

Is it electronic 4x4 or manual? Auto hubs or manual hubs?

and if they are manual hubs are you getting out to lock them?

they're auto..with the shifter on the floor

Shift to 2WD, set the trans to P (or 1 for stickshift), & set the e-brake. Crawl under the truck & try to turn the front d'shaft ONE direction (doesn't matter which). If it makes more than 8 full revolutions before locking up, then at least one of the hub locks isn't working. Watch the u-joints inside the steering knuckles: a spinning u-joint indicates an unlocked hub lock.

ok i just did that...and the front rite looks like it's not locked..it just keeps spinnin..the left is locked...when i open the rite hub..what should i be lookin for...thanks again
