Battery warning light.

My truck is a 1992 F150 XLT with the 300ci I6. Started my truck today after putting a new battery in it and I saw that the little red battery light from the dash was on. Now I don't have a current manual but I'm guessing that since I just replaced my battery it has to do something with my alternator not working or not charging, am I right?

If so then that would explain why I've had problems with my last battery having to be taken in for a charge multiple times. Do you fellas have any other ideas what else I should look into?

yep most likely you alternator. hook up a voltage meter and see what you truck puts out voltage whise as it runs. if it does go up from the 12 volts from when your truck is off (typically it'll go to 13-14 volts), you got a bad alt. i had the same issue about 2 weeks ago.

I used to drive my 1993 F150 same motor .. Look at the wires going to the alt. Mine had melted together and I replaced the harness and all was fine .. If not it's the Alt.. I had mine rebuilt on my ol 93 at about 100,000 miles.

my alt went out earlier this year. it would put out enough volts to keep the fuel pumps running and that's it. mine burned up after i towed my trailer at night, about 30 lights total including truck, ac on full blast, sub and amp on. radio on full blast and battery charger on the trailer. replaced with a 200 amp alt and havn't had a prob since... well besides my motor crapping out haha

If you go over to Autozone, they can test the alternator on the vehicle - and it's free.

It's a LOT safer to get it tested with the correct equipment.........and it's free.

They may not be the greatest or the cheapest, but the Duralast remans at Autozone do have a lifetime warranty.

ya i just go with remans because most come with a lifetime warranty. the only difference from being new is it has recycled shell parts. they replace most everything inside.
