Suggestions on fixing up a '92 302 F150 4x2
I just bought a 1992 f150 xlt, automatic, with low mileage, around 64000. thing runs like a beast. it is a 4x2 truck so it sits pretty low. my goal with the truck though is to turn that 302 its got into something powerful. also i wanna do some cosmetic work on it too. i was wondering where i should start. any suggestions are awesome. ill post some pictures soon. if any one knows the largest tire size capable for that truck please let me know. i have 235/75R15 on it now.
how much hp or torque are you trying to get out of the motor? you gonna use boost or N/A? what tranny do you have? you can just give the code on the door jam sticker.
what kind of cosmetic work do you want to do? my buddy's 94 f150 2wd has 31x10.50 tires on the stock 15" rims on it all around. with those tires it sat exactly like my truck when i still had the stock springs in the front. all i did was put 2" lift coils in the front of mine to get the front fenders away from the tires- i think it looks much better. are you thinking about lowering it or lifting it?

92 f150 work
it has the E40D transmission. the one with overdrive. im really looking to get about another 40-60 horses out of it. right now, i know stock, they come about 185hp and 270lb/ft. i really dont want to do any boost on the truck because i dont know how that engine will do with out rebuilding or upgrading some parts for boost in it. i know to get that 40-60 hp i will need to do some upgrading tho. one thing i was worried about on those wheels those is if they will rub with the way it looks now, it looks as if it will. for the exterior i really just want to bang on the dents but, i want to know where would the best place for a good paint job. i was thinking of putting a two inch lift on to mine to raise it off a little. what would be the best for these things. i know its a lot.
i do live in alaska so i need to have some clearance for the snow.

i put 2" skyjacker lift coil springs in the front on mine, it made a good difference, before it sat similar to yours and this is how it sits now, i got 31x10.50's on it.

if you lift it you'll need a alignment afterwards. swapping the springs is not hard to do at all. as far as mods there are many small things you could do to get some small gains that do add up like- advancing ignition timing a couple degrees(dont get a chip for this), 3" single exhaust with si/so straight through muffler, headers, e-fans, insulating the stock airbox(being that you live in alaska i dought it'll help a whole lot).

Lift
Awesome, so the stock stuff should hold up great. do you prefer sky jackers stuff or would other brands be alright. i'm familiar with there stuff because ive seen it used on shows like 'trucks' but, is it worth it or are the other guys just as good?

without tearing the motor down and beefing it up or adding some kind of forced induction, its pretty hard to get 40+ extra HP out of it... i'd say with that low of mileage, it should be safe to run a blower (or turbo) with boost on the conservative side... a gear swap will help on power
as far as the tires go, i squeezed 31x10.5r15 on stock rims with no lift or mods... tires rubbed the radius arms lightly at full lock to lock only cause my alignment was a lil off

skyjacker is good and IMO one of the best for the buck, but its not the best of the best by any means. i paid around 160 without tax for the springs. there are good reviews for rancho, skyjacker, fabtech, etc. i've only heard that superlift has issues with there coil springs and bushings but i aint too sure about that.
exhaust
what brand exhast are ya'll using? i was looking at gibson exhaust and pacesetter headers. what have you heard about them? i want a nice sounding exhaust that doesnt blast your ears when you cruise down the highway. and has anyone noticed a significant difference with a k&n cold air intake?

i have the K&N cai and i didnt notice anything except the exhaust got a little louder and i can hear the intake. i'm gonna make me a box for mine one of these days but as far as buying the intake and sticking it on with the parts given there are no advantages. just insulate your stock air box and tubes/hoses and get like a K&N filter or something like it.
as far as mufflers go, there are many choices like- magnaflow, borla, dynomax, corsa, gibson, etc. magnaflow and dynomax are probably the best for the buck. borla makes an excellent product but its so friggin expensive. chambered mufflers like flowmaster, and flowpro kinda hurt the bottom end a little bit but IMO they sound the best on these trucks.

i have a hypertech chip and noticed practically nothing except a little bit better throttle response. you can advance the timing a couple degrees and get the same results for $240 less.
there really isnt a noticeable difference but si/so is proven to put out just a little bit more torque than si/do, really its personal preference
what disadvantages does a si/do compared to si/so have, if any?
Performance Upgrades
I was checking out that performance upgrades thread and found a lot of helful info. I was wondering though, has anyone tried the seafoam stuff in their truck? And how can I get a new set of GT40 heads. I've looked everywhere but can't seem to find any they havent been salvaged. Also too, if anyone has installed them on a 302 ci.in., what results did you get?
i know they put them on the 5.0's in the explorers from the factory. or you can get a set from summit. and i've never actually used seafoam myself but i've seen what it can do and it does a pretty good job using it through the vacuum line to clean out the combustion chamber, but i've heard some stories about it causing the cats to clog. you need to be careful with using it through the vac lines because you have to be sure you know what your doing or you could hydrolock the engine.
