Question About Heads
Question About Heads
Ported E7's or GT40's?
I have been thinking about running a mild torque cam and I already have 1:7 rockers. I've heard a few people say that a set of ported E7's would be better for the low end set up I am going for. Any thoughts on that?
I would be doing this project in stages so a new intake and headers would come later, but right now my buddy has a set of E7's that he'll give me for free. Would the E7's match up to the stock intake and headers? I was told that the GT40's would not.

Either head is a direct bolt on and will fit your intake and headers. The GT-40P heads will fit your intake and also fit your headers but may or may not allow adequate clearance to change spark plugs. The GT-40 head is a pretty mild head, you shouldn't see any loss of low end vs. the ported E7s. I don't think ported E7s will flow quite as well as the GT-40s but they're probably close and on a mild street build does it really matter?
What you need to figure out is whether the "free" E7s are really that much of a bargain. If you do the porting yourself, that will help but you're still going to have to get larger valves fitted to match the GT-40s. GT-40s are pretty cheap at swap meets.
