I have an '81 F-150 Ranger and had a carburetor problem, but rebuilt it and she now runs just fine. The vacuum lines had to be adjusted and the timing had to be adjusted to about 10 BTDC on the 351 W, but she now starts and runs well, and doesn't run as hot as she used to. The timing was set at 12, and that was a little too far advanced, making her run hot. I love these old trucks because you can actually work on them without a computer.

 

What temp thermostat you got in there?
