Considering a new project, what is a 1973 F100 4x4 worth?

I found a 1973 F100 4x4 that is pretty complete. The guy is asking $1400 OBO. How much is the truck worth? What should I look for when I go to drive it? Body is pretty rough but the truck runs really well. Not sure which engine, but 4wd works and it has a manual 4sp with granny low transmission. I don't know much about these older trucks. Any input is appreciated.

That is probably not a bad price and could be talked down most likely. Truck also probably has an FE engine either a 360 or 390. Not the best for fuel mileage, but will pull down a house. And keep the driveway from rusting from the oil leaks. Drivetrain is pretty much bullet proof with a solid axle Dana 44 up front and a 9 inch in the rear. 73 should have disc brakes on the front. Not sure if the t-case is a 203 or 205 gear drive. The 203 is aluminum and you can't mistake it for the 205 gear drive unit! Good luck.

Thanks for the info. Those old trucks really are indestructible, aren't they?

Yep, got a 79 out back that my buddy's dad bought new. It now sports 40in
Monster Mudders, 302 with a granny gear, and 4.11 axles.

Good luck if you decide to buy your project. http://www.lmctruck.com has a ton of parts for the '73-'79 F series.
