300 I-6 Questions???
I'm currently looking at purchasing a 1992 F-150 4X4 with the 300 I-6 and a 5 spd tranny with 64,000 mile on it. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who owns one what the hp and torque of this engine is? What is the mpg? And any other information that would be helpful in making this purchase. Thanks!
I'm currently driving a ranger with a 4 cylinder in it.

I don't know the HP/TQ specs but I can say that mine (see below) get's reasonable MPG for a full size truck. My previous vehicle was a '99 Ranger with the 4.0 V6 and I much prefer my F150. I currently have over 130k miles on it and almost no oil consumption yet. The only thing lacking with the I6 is speed. It's not going to win any races unless the race requires all vehicles to run off-road while pulling a house.
Hope this helps

I've got a '94 F-150 with an I-6. The motor puts out 145 HP and 265 ft/lbs. torque. The motor is rated to get 15 city/20 highway mpg with a manual transmission. I have 90,000 miles on my I-6 and see hardly any oil consumption. If you plan on getting this my only word of advice is make sure you change your fuel filter about every 20,000 miles!
I've got a 93 with automatic tranny and it averages 15 in the city with the A/C running all the time.

I have 110,000 miles on my engine and it doesn't use any oil. The gas milage sucks though (maybe i should change that o2 sensor huh?). A truck with this engine is a good investment. The engine puts out 145HP and there aren't too many aftermarket parts that will increase that. It has monster torque though, it puts out more torque than the 302 V8. This isn't the fastest truck you will ever drive but if you need to tow a house it will do the job.
Check the truck out carefully. If it passes your inspection and suits your needs, buy it at a reasonable price. I've had four trucks with this engine and they all went well over 100K and were still going when I had to sell/trade them. This is a good package whether you do it yourself under the hood or pay to have it done, too. Properly tuned, you can get 15-16 mpg in town and near 20 down the road under ideal conditions. Check that 5-speed tranny, though. Ford put Mazda-built 5-speeds in some year models and they don't have the best reputation for strength, durability. Check the door tag have a dealer run the numbers and ID the tranny for you. If you buy it, go often to this site:
