Need advice with 1992 Truck
I have a 1992 F-150 302 extended cab pickup with 95,000 miles. I have always performed all schuduled maintanance. It seems to use one quart of oil every 3000 miles, with no signs of smoke, and no leaks. Is there anything I can do besides a complete rebuild? Thanks
Orlando,
That oil is going somewhere. You need to find out where. The obvious spot to look first is every sparkplug. The other is the radiator (real easy). Beyond that I would look to a good tec guy. Without knowing what is happing to the oil, you could end up speending 1000's on what may be a simple solution.

I think if if it is only using one quart of oil every 3000 miles you have nothing to worry about, your truck is 9 or 10 years old and has 95K miles on the motor, if there are no obvious signs of leakage in the radiator or out of some type of a seal you have nothing to worry about.
I don't really think there is anything to worry about either , that sounds like normal consumption , my 91 chevy 1500 witha 350 , has 219,800 miles on it , it has never had internal work on it , and it uses a quart every 3200 miles .
Try changing the breather on your valve cover or replace it with a stand alone style so it's not vented into the airbox.

Orlando, no issues with that truck. Mine burns that in an oil change interval. You have nothing to worry about.

I have to agree. 1 quart after 3000 miles is no big deal at all. I had a '91 Ranger with the 3.0 Liter engine that did the same thing. I had it for about 100,000 miles over about 4 years and it used that quart in 3000 miles in the beginning to the end. Never got any worse. Hey man think of it as 12,000 miles per gallon!!!
