Accell Super Coil
I'm doing a tune-up soon. I'm putting in an Accell distributer cap and rotor, Ford Motorsport 9mm Plug wires, and I haven't decided on plugs yet. My question is, I was thinking up putting in an Accell super coil, it runs about $40 from summit or jegs, is this going to make a whole lot of difference in power or milage?
Thanks

It wont make much of a difference unless your current coil isnt working as good as it should. i put one in about 2 years ago and never noticed a difference from stock. I say save your money and spend it elsewhere. If youre looking to upgrade the ignition, check out Jacob's ignitions or MSD ignitions. hope this helps, good luck!

Hi Nate,
Since you're spending the money to replace the distributor and upgrade the rest of the ignition, for $40, yes, by all means go ahead and complete the package and get more current to your spark plugs with that Super Coil. It only makes sense, if you're going to have a new distributor, better wires, etc. to go ahead and send more initial current down those nice new wires as well.
We've used many of them on various vehicles over the years, and they work well. It's not the type of part that, all by itself, is going to make a significant seat-of-the-pants type of difference, as Donate54 mentioned, unless your factory coil is weak/old, etc. However, it does indeed help improve throttle response and gas mileage a bit, so for the low cost of $40, given the fact that you're already upgrading the rest of the ignition, I'd advise you to go ahead and do the Accel Super Coil as well.
Donate54's answer to your question is correct, it's not going to make "a whole lot of difference", to quote your original question, but it's certainly worth the $40 to compliment your other ignition system improvements, and a hotter coil is one of the most common things to install when upgrading the ignition system.
Good luck!

I just installed a MSD 6A and a Ford Blaster TFI coil from Summit it cost around 190.00. They have a wire harness kit that works great with this two products. I have had a increase in gas milages. I was get around 12.5 mpg.
Now I get around 15.6. I watch my mpg very closely. Also it has better pickup and runs smoother.
Hope this helps.

I also got real good gains from my Jacobs system. It seems that these earlier model trucks benefit well from ignition upgrades.
Nate,
I would get the coil. Keep in mind that with the new good wires and a good coil, you should be able to open up your plug gaps a little. I would try .005 - .0010 more than stock. If you are even remotely considering a box down the road, you might want to think about buying the coil from that company. That way you would have a matched system, which might perform better.

Nate,
I would go with the new coil and an MSD 6A.It's worth the money and you wont have to worry about it later.
