SUPERCHARGING A 5.OL
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE BEST SUPERCHARGER IS FOR A 1990 F150 WITH A 302 EFI AND AUTO TRANS?
ALSO WHAT KIND OF H/P RATINGS SHOULD I EXPECT?

depending on how good you treat your engine and what kind of mileage it has since, you might want to consider a good rebuild before you supercharge it because a supercharger is going to put a lot more stress on the engine once it starts making boost. as far as superchargers go, you have to decide what kind of supercharger you want...roots style (kenny brown) and centrifugal (vortech, paxton) are very popular. good luck!

The motor is in good shape.I just had it rebuilt 2 yrs ago,less than 30k.
As far as what kind,i guess i would go with the centrifugal.
Do you know which company is better for my motor?
Also,what kind of h/p ratings are we talking about?My motor is pretty much stock,just a coil,wires and a jet chip.

Personally I think I would go with a Kenne Bell. They make boost at low revs and hold it. They also seem to have a good bypass setup. Just my .02 They advertise up to 10 lbs of boost for 5.0 truck apps.
As far as which is better it's just preference. If you want to get some good blower scoop, check in the "Power Adders" forum over at www.corral.net . It's a 'Stang site but they are dealing with the same basic engine. There are plenty of members with both positive displacement and centrifugal blowers.

I have thought about putting a supercharger in my truck, too, but have held off. Mechanic says it isn't a good idea for the 5.0 and AOD, especially since much of the time I'll have a horse trailer behind me.
Nevertheless, I am again considering this since I can't afford a PowerStroke right now. $35k, financed, is too much for any vehicle. Gotta save for a couple years and buy used.

Mike: Any Mustang speedshop would install that supercharger for you. Try Houston Performance (281)893-6080. They could recommend a good tranny upgrade too, I'm a 5spd guy. The exhaust manifolds cracking is a factory defect, they all did it. You should have replaced them with some quality shorty headers OR taken the money and invested in a true dual exhaust.. oh well. Towing in Texas with a supercharger.. that is about the worst of conditions. I don't know if I would do it either. I live in Dallas and tow infrequently but the heat build up would be tremendous I would think. Hopefully you get some other responses from people who have done this.

Most Kenne Bell systems have a bypass. This helps keep the heat down when you're not in the boost. At highway speeds you have plently of air for cooling, and I wouldn't think heat would be a problem. Even at lower speeds the heat problem shouldn't crop up unless you keep your foot deep into the gas pedal.
