Welcome to the world of brittle plastic. I know what you are talking about, the plastic bosses on the back of the panel get brittle and crack apart. I remember pulling out the two horizontal decorator bars, one on each side of the wheel lower down on the dash, to get at the lower screws for bezel. The top of bezel, where it fits the top curve of the dash, is held in by clips. Pry out towards you carefully and evenly with something like a stiff putty knife. Go slow, if its stuck at a corner, then there is a clip there. Its brittle, take it slow and even. You may be able to fix it, by clipping off the broken boss smooth, drill hole through the panel, put machine screw through panel from front, then through a proper depth spacer (home depot or hardware store), then through switch, then lockwasher and nut. You can color the exposed screw head with a magic marker same as dash color. With careful work, it looks better than it sounds.
