I have a 91 F150 with a 5.0 I am thinking of replacing it. Can I use a motor from a mustang GT or Lx.? What changes would i have to make. What about a ford crate motor like a gt40 would that still pass emissions in Massachusetts?

I know some guys have talked about switching out motors, and I think it is a possible hook up, but attention to the motor mounts, brackets & pulley configurations will be warranted. Plus the tranny hook up too. But, since your truck is a "speed density" computer ignition and not "mass air"(search the archives), you'll have to use a pre-mass motor. You're limited on major mod's with the speed density itself(because of ECU program), but can get a "custom" computer chip(with either mass air or speed density) to have your ECU programmed accordingly, but you'll need all of the engine specs(cam, lifters, valve size, etc.)for the programmer to get the best performance. A mass air system can get away with more major mods(cams, heads, intakes, injectors, etc.)and to convert over to the mass air is about $300+. But I'm leaving all the hard core mods to the 2 wheel drive guys. Too much drivetrain weight in a 4x4 to be a red light bandit for me! :-)
