95 Exhaust
I just got a stock 95 f-150 5.0 extended cab 4x4. I would like my first mod to be exhaust. I know flowmaster mufflers sound great on mustangs. I would like a simmilar sound on the truck. Does flowmaster sell a catback kit for these trucks? Is there an easy off-the-shelf way to convert it to true dual exhaust? Who makes some good headers for this truck? I would like the exhuaust to exit at a 45* angle from the back bumper, but I could live with an under-the-bumper kit as long as it doesn't have huge tips that neck down into tiny pipes.

My recipe isn't easy but its cheap and probably offers the best in performance if that interests you..
Summit Racing Hedman Long Tube 1.5" headers: approx $130 for the pair. NOTE: They are SUPPOSED to have an Oxygen Sensor Bung but mine didn't. Summit happily sent me one for free that the exhaust shop welded on.
Must Extend your O2 sensor harness; cut and solder the connection, use shrink wrap and electrical tape. Extend it a total of approx 12", this will give you plenty extra. Use approx 18 gauge stranded copper electrical wire.
I bought 2 Catco 2.5" in/out 3 way catalytic convertors from Summit: $59/each. I reused 2 Flowmaster 2 Chamber 2.5" mufflers off my Mustang. Uses anything you'd like here, Summit sells some Super Turbo's for like $15 (their own house brand). I SHOULD have gone with dual 2" exhaust, instead I did 2.5", it may be a little big.. more torque is probably available w/ 2".
Anyway, I unbolted/cut off the whole exhaust. Bolted on the headers and drove it (very light right foot), over to the exhaust shop. They welded in the cats and 2 mufflers and had them exit at 45 degree angle both in front of the passenger side rear tire. He could have had them exit anywhere.. whole exhaust installed cost me about $500.. lots more torque than any cat-back exhaust is gonna buy you and its emissions legal.
The headers are not hi-temp coated so they rust.. no biggie for me, its my 170K mile hunting/towing rig..
You could have the exhaust shop bend 2 'S' shaped pipes so you can slip on the cats only and drive it to the shop.. that makes it a lot quieter. They will have to weld the air pump pipe to only one of the cats. The other cat they simply leave it plugged just like it came from Summit. When you have to remove the exhaust to drop the tranny, you cut that pipe and will have to slip the Very high temp silicone hose over it plus 2 hose clamps to re-seal it..

Yea, I have a 95 model XL with a regular cab and short wheelbase. I have a cat-back setup that has no muffler. It is throaty, but not too loud. The cats (2 inline) muffle the engine. I have JBA Shorty headers and my cat-backs are dual 2.25" aluminized pipe. They still look almost new after a year and half as do the headers. My headers are Nickle plated. This was a fairly cheap setup. About $500. I have improved throttle response as well as a little more power. The sound alone was worth it. My pipes exit at my bumper. I hope this helps.
Bassani has a nice kit for around $800.00 that includes the equal lenght shorty headers and the cats and mufflers its a bolt on kit the exhaust sytem is stainless stell and made from 14gauge metal hope this helps
Header install was EASY! no fitment issues whatsoever.. for the money you can't beat the hedmans.. it will take a bit of rigging to get the oil dipstick tube mounted to one of the header bolts but otherwise no problems.
