B&M shiftplus
Has anyone tried the B&M shiftplus on their truck? I have a '95 F-150 with a 351 EOD. I eventually would like to do a superchip, but for the money the shiftplus looks like a big help for the tranny. Thanks guys this is a great forum.
Is that the little computer that acts like a shiftkit?
If it is, i have heard MANY bad bad bad things. Several people i talked to have said the unit overheated and failed quickly. One guy had it melt the carpet in his truck.
A traditional shift kit is the way to go.

Hi Tompb,
The B&M Shift Improver for the Fords is a device that splices into the ECU's (the computer) wiring harness, and what it does is to "spike" the voltage signal being sent to the shift solenoids, which gives a harder shift.
They can sometimes work OK, a number of people have used them on these F-150's, but you have to be careful as they will tend to accelerate wear & tear on the shift solenoids, which are a weak link in computer-controlled Ford automatics anyway. That is why I wouldn't use one myself.
If you want to improve your shift firmness etc., and can't do the Superchip right now, then I would suggest a good shift kit instead, or just wait until you can do the Superchip, as it will take care of those characteristics very nicely, more safely, and much more thoroughly than the $40 B&M unit.
And if the Superhicp isn't in your future, then a shift kit will do all that B&M piece can do, and it's much better for the transmission than the B&M piece.
Best of luck whatever you decide,
