Question Burnouts?

Ok so here's my question. When I do a burnout in drive - not powerbraking(I know, I know, you shouldn't do this) I get the wheels spinning nicely and then the trans shifts to second. Of course my burnout ends there, but about 1 1/2 seconds after shifting to second the truck shifts back into first to take off. Is this a problem? It's pretty annoying when I try to impress my Chevy driving buddies. hehe

Try leaving it in first gear.

And if you don't have a good transmission cooler on it, get one installed pronto! Doing burnouts causes the automatic transmission fluid to heat up *tremendously*, and very quickly.

Most likely it's shifting back down into first gear simply because the engine bogs (loses rpm)after going into second and getting traction, and you still have your foot to the floor, so it downshifts back into 1st gear.

As Y2K mentioned, putting it manually into 1st gear will lock it in that gear.

By the way, this sure is hard on a 100,000+ mile truck, but then you probably already know that.

Good luck!

I used to have the same problem in my F250 heavy duty, but I cured it with a 100 horse nitrous system. Now it keeps on spining all the way throuth second. It works real good at showing those chevy guys whoose boss too.Maybe you should try one. Don't mine has over a hundred thousand miles on it too.It hasn't hurt any thing yet and I use at least a full bottle a week.
